How To Declutter Your Home For The New Year

The new year means new goals and many people are ready to set some for 2024. Maybe you’re trying to lose weight, or you’re ready to get your home decluttered and cleaned! If you want to get rid of unwanted items in 2024, we’re here to help! Decluttering your home is no easy task, but what better way to hold yourself accountable than to make it a goal in the new year? Learn below how to declutter your home for the new year with some suggested items to toss in 2024!

Items To Get Rid Of In 2024

Have lots of junk and not sure what to toss? Discover below some items that would be a good start to eliminate the clutter in your home!

Old/Expired Food

If you have old or expired food hanging around in your fridge, it’s time to get rid of it! If you’re not going to eat it, why keep it around? Old food is gross to keep in your fridge or cabinets, especially when it is expired. Check your cabinets for old or stale food items and toss them before the new year to prevent ants or fruit flies from entering your home. If you find anything random in your pantry and it is still in good condition as it has not been touched, consider donating to a food pantry. If you haven’t opened it in a month or so, odds are you will not use it now. Throwing out or donating food items as you can will help you do something good for not only your home but other homes in need.

Squished Pillows and Worn Blankets

Does your living room or bedroom look outdated? The new year is the perfect time to remodel and renovate your home by tossing anything outdated. Squished pillows, worn blankets, stained floor rugs, etc., should be tossed, and you can purchase new, fresh items for your home. This goes for both bedding and decorative items. Why suffer when sleeping if your pillows are squished and no longer supportive? If your decorative blankets and pillows look worn, why not splurge for a more attractive appearance? Updating your home and tossing away old items is good for both your mental and physical health this new year!

Old Winter Clothes and Boots

Going into the winter season with excess clothes and boots can be overwhelming. Sort through your items now and enter the new year feeling refreshed! If you have many old winter jackets, scarves, boots, gloves, and other outdoor winter gear, sort through it all now. Donate any of the items to make space in your home or attic. Decluttering can be overwhelming, but once it’s done, you will feel a weight lifted off your shoulders. It’s also good to know you are doing something good with your old clothes and shoes by donating them to people who need them. Put together a box or bin of old items you want to clear out and donate to a local charity or donation center in your community.

Mismatched/ Half Used Items

Another group of items to look out for in your home decluttering process is anything that is mismatched or half-used. Have candles that are half used, and you haven’t lit in a year? Throw them out. Bright lipstick or Makeup that you haven’t touched in 6 months? Throw it out. Socks that have been mismatched or ones you can’t find the match for? Throw them out. Getting rid of unnecessary items or items that do not go together can lift a tremendous amount of weight off your shoulders. Keeping excess items and clutter is dangerous for not only your physical but also your mental health. If you find things around your home you haven’t touched, broken, or half-used and have been that way for a while, toss it out!
