movers moving out boxes of items

Now is the right season to move

First of all, could you ask for a better time of year than going through the hassle of relocating from one home to another?  If you are going to do it, you might as well hold on until the weather makes it a much less daunting task.  But the weather isn’t the only consideration this time of year.

Yard sales and garage sales are big attractions

There are people out there who just love a good yard sale.  In fact, there are some folks that spend the weekend just bouncing around from yard sale to yard sale.  What this provides you with, is a great opportunity to start downsizing your belongings before you move.  Here is your chance to get rid of all those things you have been hanging onto -hoping the kids will someday want or you’ll finally find the perfect place for it.  Odds are neither of those two things is going to happen, so why not purge the old stuff and make some money at the same time.  It’s also a great time to have some junk hauled away or to plan for some temporary storage.

For those of you who are trading up to a bigger home, yard sales will also offer you the opportunity to pick up some needed items often for much less money.  They’re a win-win all around.

The kids are already out of school

Moving can be a bit tougher on the kids than it is on the adults, especially if there is a school change involved.  Making a move when school is out allows kids the time to get acclimated to their new neighborhood before the new school year starts.  Then when things do start up again, the change to a new school could be a lot less traumatic since it will be the start of a whole new year and not a mid-year relocation uprooting them from teachers and friends.

It’s a great time to sell

Let’s face it, we all know where the housing market is right now and it’s a sellers’ market.  If you are looking to downsize, this might be an ideal time to take a look at what’s out there and at what you might be able to get for your place.  A nice return on your original investment is always a good thing.

Summer flexibility

Things just seem to be about more casual in the summer.  Often work schedules become more flexible, people take vacation time, and the days are longer and brighter. Each of these can add some time to your schedule allowing you a bit more flexibility when it comes to planning or preparing for a move.
